Brothers Complete formulas have between 33 and 40% protein (dry matter basis) and over 90% of that protein is animal sourced which is what your friendly family carnivore was designed by mother nature to eat.
Eggs are considered the "perfect" food because they are absorbed easily and completely (100% bioavailable) and have all 23 amino acids, including the 9 "essential" amino acids that cannot be produced by the body and must be derived from food - all 9 of which are essential building blocks for all the proteins in the body.
Brothers begins with an abundance of high quality human grade proteins, to which we add Digestive Enzymes (to facilitate thorough digestion and nutrient availability while strengthening the immune system), Selective PREbiotics (that will selectively feed the beneficial gut bacteria and not the pathogenic bacteria, as the common short chain prebiotics do), and Encapsulated PRObiotics (protected by a unique coating that prevents them from activating prematurely and dying which is the fate of 99% of the Probiotics normally used on dog food).
The cassava we use as a binder is obtained from the roots of the cassava plant (manihot esculenta) and is a natural source of low glycemic carbohydrates that is a large part of the diet of many countries. In the areas where Cassava makes up 80% of the the diet, type 2 diabetes is nonexistant. This low glycemic starch allows Brothers to make a kibble that is closer to a wolf’s ancestral diet which was based predominantly on animal.
Additionally, some studies have shown that up to 50% of the cassava starch survives the digestive process and, instead of being absorbed into the blood stream as a starch, passes through to the colon where it feeds trillions of beneficial bacteria there that are essential for the health and proper functioning of the colon, the immune system, the absorption of nutrients, and the system as a whole. Practically speaking, the absorption of much of the cassava starch by the beneficial bacteria in the colon, increases the percentage of protein delivered to the body above the amount listed in the guaranteed analysis.
In the last few years, some pet food manufacturers have eliminated or restricted the use of grains but have substituted white potatoes or sweet potatoes instead. White potatoes have a higher glycemic index than white sugar (80 to 110 versus sugar at 65) which puts a strain on the adrenal and pancreatic systems because it spikes the blood sugar and produces a large insulin response every time the dog eats. The high glycemic property of white potato also feeds the Candida Albicans yeast/fungus in the colon which becomes a fungus whose rhizomes grow into the mucosal lining of the intestine causing openings between the cells (enterocytes) that line the inside of the gut, creating a condition known as “leaky gut” which allows the contents of the colon, including the Candida Albicans Fungus, to "leak" into the blood stream. Once in the blood stream Candida Albicans is identified as "Systemic Candida" which leads to a host of skin problems and allergy-related skin problems. For these reasons and others, Brothers does not use grain, white potatoes, sweet potatoes, or sugar in any form in any of our formulas for food or treats.
Brothers Complete does not use any BHA, BHT, or ethoxyquin to preserve our dog food and does not buy or use any ingredients that have ever been treated with ethoxyquin at any point along the supply line, as nearly all fish is. Brothers is preserved naturally with a combination of 4 natural preservatives Vitamin E (mixed tocopherals), Vitamin C, Rosemary extract, and Green Tea extract. Because all preservatives are light, heat and oxygen sensitive, we package our food in a high-tech, metalized, 3 ply, foil and keep it in an air-conditioned storage facility at 60 F until the day it is shipped to you, which further maintains the effectiveness of the natural preservatives we use.
Most dog foods spend 4 to 8 months in hot wholesale warehouses before reaching the retail outlets, where they can sit on shelves in pet food stores for several more months before being purchased by the customer. Brothers manufactures small batches frequently and uses a combination of 4 natural preservatives rather than the normal 1 or 2 so our food is very likely the freshest food you can possibly buy.

FEEDING DIRECTIONS FOR YOUR PET
Brothers Complete is a beautifully balanced, extremely nutritious dog food and you usually feed less of it, often a lot less, than other dog foods, even those considered to be among the best.
Four Hundred calories of a dog food with low amounts of protein (in the 15% to 25% range), along with high carbohydrate levels from grain, white potatoes, sweet potatoes, or other refined carbs. does not begin to compare with the superior nutrition that 400 calories of Brothers brings to your dog with 33% to 40% human grade protein, Digestive Enzymes, Selective Prebiotics, Encapsulated Probiotics, low glycemic Cassava Root as a carb binder, and the intricate balancing of nutrients to each other. Food calories are not created equal. Superior nutrition is the optimum amount of high quality calories and nutrients intricately balanced in relation to each other first, and then to the whole.
We suggest you feed the recommended amount of Brothers to begin with, regardless of how much you were feeding of the old dog food, and adjust slowly from there. Overfeeding can cause a soft stool or diarrhea and is a sign to cut back on the amount of Brothers you are feeding.
When switching to Brothers Complete we recommend mixing Brothers Complete with the old food for a few days to as much as a week. Every dog is different and tolerates change at his or her own level but usually the worst that happens if the change is too fast is a loose stool. Below are the suggested daily feeding recommendations. The amount one feeds his or her dog varies with age, activity level, and environment. So it best to monitor your dog during the first few weeks after switching to determine the ideal feeding amount.

Puppies Puppies can require as much as 50% to 100% more food during growth and high activity phases but it's important they not be overfed, especially with large breed puppies. You should be able to feel their ribs but not see them. Check their weight at least once a week and adjust to maintain an ideal weight.
